Drama as Two Garissa MPs quarrel over DP Ruto’s KSh 12 million donation
Tension is brewing up in Garissa after Garissa Women Representative Anab Gure sharply differed with Fafi MP over accountability of KSh 12 million raised during a fund drive to support Madrasa in his constituency.
The fund raiser which was presided over by Deputy President William Ruto and a host of several members of parliament was held at Bura Baraza Park six months ago.
According to Tuko correspondence, the women rep claimed close to KSh 12 million was collected during the fund drive in aid of Madrasa but the money has been squandered by the lawmaker.
“After distress calls to the MP, one of his close associates sent one of the madrasa an amount of KSh 140,000 and another KSh 50,000 through M-Pesa, this amount is far less than what was contributed during the fundraiser,” she said.
Gure alleged operation of the institutions have been a challenge due to financial constraints saying the collected funds would have assisted in running all madrasas in the constituency.
“The Bank accounts for the Dekaharja, Bura, Nanighi and Kamuthe madrassas read inactive since their opening 6 months ago. No shilling was deposited to their accounts,” said the women Representative.
Fafi MP Abdikarim Osman, however, denied the money was swindled and accused the woman rep of painting him in bad light.
Osman said he was not a custodian of the funds raised arguing donation was managed by a committee selected by the constituency’s religious leaders.
“For clearance of doubt, any person interested to know how the funds are being managed should not hesitate to contact the religious leaders in Fafi,” he said in a statement.
