Waititu,wife and daughter set to be arrested over graft

DPP Noordin Haji has approved the prosecution of Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, his wife Susan Ndung’u and daughter Monica Njeri.

The three are facing graft charges alongside other eight chief officers at the county and businessmen.

EACC has recommended that Waititu be charged with conflict of interest, dealing with suspect property, abuse of office involving a tender worth ksh588 million and fraudulent acquisition of Ksh221 million public property.

Reports by Pulse Live Kenya reveals that the Anti-graft commission is expected to also charge Lucas Waihinya, the county chief officer of roads. Zacharia Njenga Mbugua, Joyce Ngina Musyoka, Simon Kabocho Kang’ethe, Anselm Gachukia Wanjiku and Samuel Muigai Mugo who are members of the tender committee.

Money laundering charge

EACC also put M/S Testimony Enterprises Limited’s director Charles Mbuthia Chege and his wife Beth Wangeci on their radar.

Possible charges facing the suspects include engaging in fraudulent procurement, willful failure to comply with the law relating to procurement and money laundering.

EACC is said to be planning how to implement the recommendation to prosecute the suspects.

Reports alleged that the preliminary probe showed that contractors paid monies to senior county officials, their companies or relatives through proxies.

The commission’s Spokesman Yassin Amaro had earlier said that the governor’s immediate family, including his two daughters, were at the centre of the investigations.the

Governor Waititu is accused of amassing questionable wealth since he assumed office in late 2017.

However, the Kiambu governor told off his critics, terming the graft purge a targeted fight against Tanga Tanga wing, allied to the Deputy President.
