Zambia calls off match against South Africa over Xenophobic Attacks

he Football Association of Zambia( FAZ) has called off an international friendly match against South Africa.

Zambia’s Chipolopolo was set to play against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in National Heroes Stadium on Saturday,September 7.

In a statement sent to the newsroom, FAZ General Secretary Adrian Kashala said the move was prompted by the prevailing xenophobic attack in South Africa that has seen businesses and vehicles owned by foreigners looted and torched.

” The Football Association of Zambia ( FAZ) regrets to inform members of the public that the international friendly match between Zambia and South Africa that was scheduled for National Heroes Stadium on Saturday, September7, ,2019, has been called off in a view of the prevailing security concerns in South Africa.” read part of the statement.

However, the match was to be played in Lusaka, Zambia speculation as to why the match was called off has been afloat with many alleging the move was in retaliation to the attacks a claim Mr Kashala has refuted saying the decision was reached by both FAZ and South Africa Football Association ( SAFA).
