Apple is offering a free service repair programme for a few models of the iPhone after it was reported that these devices weren’t powering on.

According to a support page on Apple’s website, the eligible iPhones under this program are iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus.

Apple on the support page noted that “Apple has determined that certain iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus devices may not power on due to a component that may fail.”

Apple has said the issue affects not all iPhone 6S and 6S and iPhone 6S Plus variants but only a select few. The company said that, “This issue only affects devices within a limited serial number range that were manufactured between October 2018 to August 2019.”

Apple on the support page has given the option to check which iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus models are eligible for for the free repair programme. All one needs to do is put their serial number in the serial number checker box to know if the phone is eligible for repair, free of charge.

Apple, however, has clearly stated that “this worldwide Apple program doesn’t extend the standard warranty coverage of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.”

Further the company said that,“The program covers affected iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus devices for 2 years after the first retail sale of the unit.”

As is the case when Apple launches such programs, there are certain caveats. For instance, if the iPhone “has any damage which impairs the ability to complete the repair, such as a a cracked screen, that issue will need to be resolved prior to the service.”

If that happens, then users will have to pay for any additional repairs that may be needed at the time of repair. So, if your iPhone 6S or 6S Plus is facing any powering on issue, you might just get a free repair from Apple.
