Breakdown of Ksh.3B Covid-19 emergency allowance for frontline healthcare workers


The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) has approved over Ksh.3 billion emergency allowance and benefits for Covid-19 frontline healthcare workers for three months.

SRC Chairperson Lynn Mengich, in a letter to Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani, said the money would be issued to the medical professionals for a period of 3 months with effect from April 1, 2020.

The commission also said medical cover for healthcare workers will be provided as per existing SRC’s Advisory and subject to affordability.

Ms. Mengich further stated that insurance cover and other insurance benefits under the Work Injury Benefits Act (WIBA), Group Personal Accident (GPA) and Group Life Insurance (GLI) will be addressed by the Ministry of Public Service and Gender who will give further guidance in consultation with respective stakeholders as per proposals.

“Psychosocial support to health workers to be provided for as per existing Public Service Human Resource Manual of 2016, subject to affordability,” she added.
