Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng is “surprised” by speculation linking him with a move to Tottenham.
The 32-year-old’s current contract expires at the end of the season, prompting talks of a return to the Premier League after a short spell with Manchester City nine years ago.
Jose Mourinho is reportedly a long-time admirer of Boateng and German media have claimed that he could make a move in the summer.
That’s news to Boateng, though, who has asked about Mourinho and Spurs by Suddeutsche Zeitung.
“Nobody approached me, nobody spoke to me, I didn’t know anything about it, I was surprised,” he said.
Boateng was in August asked by The Guardian if he is open to a move back to England, replying that he “would not say no”, adding: “I am definitely down for it, but I don’t know for the future.
“You never know. But it’s not that I would say: ‘I never want to play there.’ It’s one of my favourite leagues for sure.”
