Embakasi East MP Babu Owino was last evening chased by irate residents while inspecting the Fedha estate link road.
The first time member of parliament was forced to run for dear life and seek refuge in a strangers house in the gated Nyayo estate.
According to Ghetto Radio digital online news,Babu who had gone in the area at around 6.30PM to address area residents and motorists on the poor state of the Fedha road was shouted down by the residents who had seemingly had enough of his promises.
The flamboyant MP is said to have sensed that the incensed crowd was not interested in his rhetoric over the poor state of the road.
Drama started just when he had started to address the irate residents when they started shouting toka hapa, toka hapa(leave leave)
When the noise had become so intense, he was forced to leave. The angry residents then started following him, forcing him to speed into Nyayo Estate in his Toyota V8 to take refuge.
The motorists told the legislator that they wanted roads and not promises that he has been making ever since he was elected as the area MP.
Fedha road which is in the fast developing Nairobi metropolis has the poorest road network in the city and the slow progress of the construction of the roads is blamed on the MP, Babu Owino.
“We have lost businesses because of this bad road as many motorists now prefer using Mombasa Road,” said a businessperson.
“This road has cost us a lot since we are being forced to use the longer route,” cried another resident.
The member of parliament was rushed to a Nairobi hospital after he twisted his leg on the poor road surface. His aides suggest it was just minor and the MP is not in any danger only terming yesterday’s incident as sheer politics from his opponents.
