A headmaster of the Federal Polytechnic Ede, Osun State named John Adekolawole was ‘suspended’ for gross misconduct in the workplace.
Reports say the headmaster was found guilty of turning his office into a convenience room with a kingsize bed, which culminated to a habit of sleeping.
Adekunle Masopa, the chairman of ASUP, said that the disciplinary action was based on what he called “21 grounds”.
He said that though the union tried to intervene, the academic board members said their decision was final.
In a formal paper sent to the union, the board explained one of the things Adekolawole was suspended for was that he left his duty for about a month without official leave.
Also, the rector was accused of disrespecting his office by building a well-furnished bedroom in it that has a king-sized bed, creating an environment that coaxed him to sleep often at work.
The paper also linked him to fraud saying: “Improper improvisation of dual award programme of National Diploma plus NCE (Nigeria Certificate in Education) programme in collaboration with a consultant.” When news of his suspension got to Instagram, Nigerians weighed in on the matter giving varied suggestions.
