Mt Kenya leaders allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta led by Murang’a Woman Rep Sabina Chege and former Gatanga lawmaker Peter Kenneth have asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to give them political direction ahead of 2022 poll.
The two leaders regretted that the president’s reluctance to stamp his authority had paved the way for Deputy President William Ruto to make inroads and popularise his UDA Party.
Former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth asked the head of state to name a spokesperson who would succeed him in Central Kenya.
Murang’a woman Rep added that, even though they support ODM leader Raila Odinga’s presidential bid, they were unsure if he was Uhuru’s choice.
“We are in a dilemma as our opponents in Deputy President William Ruto’s camp have made a big step in Mt Kenya. We need to re-strategise or perish politically” she said.
She added: “These problems have been brought about by our lack of planning. The 2022 elections are getting closer and the president is yet to give us a political direction. It seems everyone is on his own as we wait for his word,”
Speaking to the press on Monday, December 14, the Murang’a Women Rep vowed to relentlessly campaign for ODM leader Raila Odinga in his bid to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta next year.
“I’m positive that we can now debate whether or not Raila Odinga can be a candidate. I’m no longer afraid of being associated with him. He is a leader like any other. I have a responsibility as a leader from the region to help my people fight the phobia.” she stated.
She added: “Initially we were told that Raila is not even a human. We were all very much afraid of him. But now we have had access to him, he is a very polite person. He has come out as a very good family man, a person who is very considerate about other people and a down-to-earth person,”
Sabina Chege is among the Uhuru-allied politicians from the mountain who have pledged their absolute allegiance to the former premier.
