Uganda Police arrested FDC supporters during Stella Nyanzi’s sentencing to 18 months in prison. However, she will serve only 9 months, as she had already done nine.
Several youths mostly from FDC were arrested as court turned chaotic after Dr Stella Nyanzi stripped naked before Grade One magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu.
FDC named the arrested as Augustine Ojobile, Abudalla Waiswa, Joel Kabali, Simoni Wanyera, Fatuma Abenabyo and Moses Katumba
Nyanzi’s sentencing to 9 months in prison comes after being found guilty of cyber harassment when she, in 2018 posted on Facebook a vulgar birthday poem dedicated to President Yoweri Museveni and his late mother Esteri Kokundeka.
Grade One magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu said she opted for the prison sentence over a cash fine because Nyanzi has shown no remorse and is not resentful of her actions.
Kamasanyu noted that cases of cyber harassment are on the rise and there is a need to curb down the vice because freedom of speech is not absolute
