The Apple media event, or iPhone 11 event, kicked off at 19:00 on 10 September and streamed live from the Steve Jobs Theatre in California.

The Apple team has a smorgasbord of new announcements line up, from Apple TV+ to the new iPad, Apple Arcade and the new range of iPhones. Here’s what you may have missed.

Apple Arcade

Apple announced that its online gaming subscription service, Apple Arcade, will launch as soon as next week; 18 September, to be exact. It offers exclusive titles for mobile and desktop users.

The new service is available from Apple’s online marketplace and costs $4.99 per month (or R73.20 at the time of publishing). It will include more than 100 game titles made for Apple devices.

“You can’t find these games on any other mobile platform or subscription service, no games service ever launched as many games, and we can’t wait for you to play all of that.”

Apple TV+

Apple TV+ will launch on 1 November, at a cost of only $4.99 for the entire family. In addition, you’ll get one year free subscription when you buy a new iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV.

Apple is committed to producing original content for Apple TV+ and will launch the service with a “powerful and inspiring lineup of original shows, movies and documentaries.”

Apple’s on a mission to recreate not only the iPad, but also the way we work, create and play. The new iPad comes with a bigger 10.2 inch Retina display.

Apple takes browsing and multi-tasking to a whole new level with the new iPad. Want to capture a screenshot? Simply swipe up from the bottom corner with the Apple pen.

“There’s so much more to iPad, including our awesome new services.”

In addition, the new iPad is made from 100% recycled aluminium. That’s a first! It comes with an 8MP camera. Pre-orders are open, and will begin to ship from the end of September.

Apple Watch

The Apple Watch saves lives, literally. Apple showcased a video snippet of people sharing their experiences and how the watch assisted with live-saving alerts.

“Apple Watch has become the most advanced and most loved smartwatch in the world.”

Stan Ng from Apple said the new watch has an intuitive display which is “always on.” You will always be able to see the clock face and vital information, the screen will never go dark.
